The retread process
In order to guarantee the lowest cost for the fleet, Goodyear Dunlop offers a variety of different retread and casing programmes. The retread production process consists of a series of steps using state-of-the-art systems to ensure top-quality tyres at a fraction of the cost of a new tyre. They result in perfect casing/retread uniformity, excellent balance, low vibration, even wear and unparalleled kilometre performance for the retreaded tyre.
Casing inspection
When a worn tyre enters the Goodyear Dunlop Retread plants, a casing specialist first assures that the renewed tyre will achieve the reliability and performance it had when it was brand new. This starts with the nail hole detection test. Next, the carcass is scanned with the latest shearography technology to check the structure of the tyre in minute detail. At this stage, any flaws invisible to the human eye are detected. For example, a casing will be rejected if separations in the casing structure are found. The shearography inspection ensures that potentially unreliable tyres never see the road again.
The Mold Cure process
The Mold Cure process retreads a casing from bead to bead. In other words, the retread looks exactly like a new tyre: same looks, same geometry, same design, same compound and same performance. With specially designed equipment, the tyre casing is buffed to produce the right under-tread depth and surface texture to seat and cement the precisely contoured, pre-molded tread. After inspection and buffing, the casing receives a complete new layer of uncured rubber before being placed in a press that cures the tyre and provides the new design, side wall, etc. Mold Cure products are designed by new tyre engineers using state-of-the-art technology. The aim is to precisely reproduce the new tyre geometry and performance characteristics.
The Precure process
During the Precure process, uncured rubber is extruded to the casing in order to bond the new tread and the casing. Precision technology allows the tread to fit the casing perfectly, which makes for perfect rolling dynamics. This produces a perfectly balanced tyre, which performs like a new one. Next, the built tyre is cured in a pressure chamber. During a final inspection, the tyre must meet the highest quality standards before it can leave the retread plant.
Goodyear Authorised Retreaders
Goodyear Dunlop Retreading services are offered by our GAR (Goodyear Authorised Retreaders) network. Because only the best service partners can become Goodyear Authorised Retreaders, our GAR partners are selected carefully and audited every year before receiving their quality certification.
